7 Lessons I learned from Jordan Peterson

1. Find Meaning Despite the Pain and Suffering

Most people want to be happy, to be rich, to have the biggest house, to have the nicest car.

Jordan claims that the meaning of life is to find meaning to put against the pain that exists in our world. you see, pain is always here, the line to Starbucks, the death of your dog, a car accident.

The only thing we can do to stand against it is to create our values and virtues and live by them.

That's the meaning of life.

2. Confront the Chaos and Claim Responsibility for your Life

Chaos is everywhere, from the traffic to a new type of disease, all unknown things are chaotic, but the only way to grow is to confront that chaos, because as Jordan often says: to get to the treasure you need to confront a dragon. Your mission is to take responsibility for your life and confront this chaos around you with a straight back and head held high.

Confront chaos, that's where the treasure lies.

3. Abandon Comfort for the Sake of Growth

Getting out of your comfort zone is the only way to grow. If you play the same game over and over again you don't learn, if you don't learn you can't grow. growth is the only way to happiness, to see yourself becoming better every day is the superior feeling of all.

You need to give up on comfort if you want to grow.

Diamonds are formed under pressure.

4. All of Us have a Dark Side, Let him be, But Control him

One of Jordan's patients had an OCD disorder which caused him to do very specific things before falling asleep. Jordan suggested he talks with this part of him, to see what it truly wants, and then accept it.

I want you to do the same, we all have a part of us that we ignore, our dark side, give him some attention, let him be, and then you can be complete again.

Do not let him control you, this part can be charismatic but his intentions are evil, remember why you hide him.

5. Make a Sacrifice to Improve

Like in ancient times, people sacrificed gifts to god, nowadays to make a change you need to make a sacrifice whether it's hard work, no sleep, money, or time, if you want to change something you need to put effort and sacrifice for it. every good thing has a price, just remember: never sacrifice your future for anything

6. Stop thinking about the next life while you are living your current life

In every religion there are heaven and hell: two places you go to when you end your life, one for the people who were honored and done great things for the world, and one for all of the sinners. People tend to focus on the next life while their current life needs some work to do, they think "Why focus on this world when there is heaven and hell on the next side?".

But the only sure thing is not heaven or hell, it's the moment we exist in it, right here, right now, we can create our own paradise if we focus on this moment instead of the future. We need to bring heaven to here

7. Make a Change, Even the Smallest

We change, always, but the thing we need to keep in mind is how we change, do we become better over time or are we just adopting horrible habits that will make us bad people after a while? You need to become your best, but it's not so easy so start with a simple step in that way: clean your room, cook dinner for your family, or be grateful for something. If you improve over time your success is promised.
